Clients call us when things aren’t working well and they don’t know why. Insiders can’t always see the root causes of a problem when they are so close to it. As outside consultants who have worked with many organizations, we can more easily see the logjam, the missing piece, the system that is doing a great job of getting the wrong results. We troubleshoot intractable problems, improve operations, move managers and staff into new roles where they can be more successful, and create opportunities for new talent.

Clients also bring us in when they are experiencing growing pains. The informal systems that worked so well when your company was small aren’t keeping up now that you’ve doubled or tripled in size. Setting up the structures and systems to improve communication, decision making, and management, while reinforcing the values and culture that helped you get this far, this fast, is what we do best.

What we do:

  • use a variety of methods to get up to speed on what’s working, what’s not, and why, including interviews, focus groups, and surveys
  • involve all stakeholders in a needs assessment, and, if possible, all staff
  • present findings and recommendations to the leadership team and to all those who participated
  • design a road map for restructuring, if needed, and ensure that the right people are in the right roles
  • if management changes need to be made, coach leaders to have honest, constructive conversations with those who are important contributors, but not great people managers
  • improve how the organization is functioning, while minimizing disruption and the loss of high performers
